Friday

Had a slightly better day. It didnt start off too great. Woke up crying again and cried a couple of times at work. Was collared by the manager who asked how things were going. I haven't mentioned too much about work but the last 3 months have been awful. Quite a lot of staff have left and they cannot be replaced due to "council cut backs". We now have 8 Payroll Officers, we used to have 23. Of the 8 of us left 3 are part time.
Anyway we had a chat and he's promised he is trying to put things in place to make the next couple of weeks easier (coming up to deadline and 2 of the full time staff are on annual leave and paternity leave), so hopefully things will improve. Another colleague has been off sick this past week, and "should" be in next week according to management, however the rest of us can't see him being back in. Two people at work have been offered sicknotes, and refused them as they don't want to let anyone down.
I think everyone is fairly convinced I won't be in next week. I'm not sure I will be myself, although being at home probably won't do me any good either, at least i'm keeping busy at work.
When I got home from work, I found 6 Crunchies had been posted through the door! This is related to my FB status last Friday, where I summed up a crap week, said thank F it's Friday and asked if anyone had a Crunchie!! Found out later that it was my Dad who put them through!

  1. I was just about to sit by my front door and wait for the Crunchie Postman to come over and deliver me loads! I love Crunchies so much! nom nom nom! :)

Your department at work seems like a stressful place for everyone. Let's hope it improves because work shouldn't have to be like that. I know that with council cut backs it can be very frustrating (in my case govt cut backs at my work). All of you can only do your best and if they expect anything more then they need to understand that it's impossible to do the same amount of work that 23 people would have done with only 8 people. Similar thing happened with my department. They ended the contracts of 4 out of 8 people and then questioned why we were only producing half the work. Sometimes you wonder how they managed to get jobs so high up with so little common sense lol!

  3. See it bugs me that they've got rid of all the payroll officers, who actually do the work, while the management get regraded to a higher post, and sit twiddling their thumbs trying to come up with another costcutting idea!

  4. Meant to say - sounds like similar goings on at your place, i'm sure the brain stops functioning once you get further up the management ladder :)

  5. Glad you had a better day. Work sounds a little stressful, but I think that being at work would be better than being at home. Keep your chin up :)))

  6. Hi Gemma, I've been trying to comment on your blog for ages but for some reason it wont let me! I've come up with an AIM logon so hopefully it'll let me comment.

I'm really pleased to see you're back blogging again, i'm sorry you've had such a crap time of it lately but it sounds like you're taking the steps to get back on track. Seeing the GP sounds like a good plan and if he does recommend taking some time off, I would take it. I work in HR and too often I see people coming back to work too soon and they make themselves more poorly. You need to look after number one and take each day at a time. Hope you've had a good day today xx MrsShilts (MrsShilts.co.uk)
